Porch Chops
My good friends in The Clockers are hosting a rock show in the driveway during Kenmore’s Porch Fest. It’s a village-wide music festival with musicians performing on porches, garages and driveways. Some local businesses getting involved as well. So take a stroll and enjoy a bunch of artists!
I’ve been a huge fan of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s art since I was a kid in the ‘80s reading CARtoons magazine and discovering the whole hot rod culture stuff. I sucked at building model cars but I really enjoyed drawing monsters driving ridiculous muscle cars. The influence of this stuff was a defining element of lowbrow art and has always found itself crawling into my work.
I got a hot tip recently about using technology to add detail to your art. If you want cool life photo references of backgrounds or settings for your artwork you can use google maps street view to find references of architecture and geography. I used it to find an image of the house that is hosting this event and I think that adds a really nice personal touch to the narrative instead of drawing some random ass house. While this application isn’t very exotic I am excited to use this tool to get images of settings in the future!
